Carpenters First, Everything Else Second
Oakline Craftworks began in 2007 when founder Ethan Mercer, fresh from a decade on heritage sites, set up a bench in a rented Millbrook barn. His rule was simple: design it properly, build it once, and stand behind it for years.
Eighteen years on, the barn has become a purpose-built workshop with its own finishing shop, timber store and demonstration home — but the rule hasn't changed. Every project still passes through one pair of hands at a time, and Ethan still leads the first site visit.

Machine Accuracy, Hand Finish
CNC profiling keeps repeated elements identical across hundreds of metres; hand-cut joints, shaped rails and oiled surfaces keep them warm. Our makers train four years at the bench before leading a project.
