A staircase should be silent. Creaks come from movement: treads rubbing strings, wedges working loose, housings cut a hair wide. We glue, screw and wedge every housing, then isolate the stair from the building frame.
The result is a stair you climb barefoot at midnight without waking the house — like the fourteen-tread oak flight we fitted at Oakridge.
